NJPCA’s 14th Annual Celebration of Women’s Health

It’s time to take control of your health! National Women’s Health Week is an excellent time for all women to take a more active role in not only their health, but also the health and wellness of their loved ones.

The New Jersey Primary Care Association and the federally qualified health centers of New Jersey welcome you to the 14th Annual Celebration of Women’s Health on Thursday, May 17 at our Women’s Health and Policy Luncheon. Our annual luncheon is dedicated to encouraging women to take preventative measures to better their health while having fun.


Meet the Guest Speakers:

Joan M. Quigley

Joan is the President and CEO of the North Hudson Community Action Corporation (NHCAC), which consists of 11 Federally Qualified Health Center sites in Hudson, Bergen and Passaic Counties. Prior to her duties at NHCAC, Joan was a hospital administrator for 33 years, serving as Vice President of St. Francis Hospital in Jersey City and St. Mary Hospital in Hoboken and later as Vice President of External Affairs for Carepoint Health System. Joan represented parts of Hudson and Bergen Counties as a Member of the New Jersey General Assembly between the years of 1993 and 2011. During her terms in office, she served on the Assembly Health, Budget, Commerce & Development, and Independent Authorities Committees, and chaired the State Government and Homeland Security Committees. She was Parliamentarian for the Democratic Minority in the 1990s and became Deputy Speaker and then Conference Leader of the Democratic Majority. As a legislator, she served on several statewide committees and commissions and in 2012 was appointed as a member of the State Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards. Since 2012, she has authored a weekly column on public affairs for The Jersey Journal. She has been honored for writing and advertising, as well as for hosting information programs on cable television. She has served on the Boards of Boys & Girls Clubs of New Jersey, the Hudson County Community College Foundation, the Board of Regents of Saint Peters University, the United Way and the 200 Club, as well as many other local organizations. She has been honored by diverse organizations including Douglass College, the Federation of Women’s Clubs, the New Jersey Hospital Association, NAMI, New Jersey Monthly Magazine, Boy Scouts of America, and the Jersey City Fire Department (which named her an Honorary Battalion Chief.)Joan completed a two-year Associate degree program from Hudson County Community College and a four-year Baccalaureate program of Saint Peters University during the same two-year period.

Barbara George Johnson

Barbara is the Executive Director for the John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy and provides lobby and advocacy training to non-profits as a consultant. Barbara has over 20 years of health and social policy experience. She has spent several years as a Senior Associate for the second largest lobbying firm in Trenton, MBI-GluckShaw. Her lobbying career began at the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey where she served as its first Legislative Director. In this capacity, she made her mark as a grassroots organizer and successfully chaired and led the Family Equality Coalition to its victorious passage of Domestic Partnership legislation. Other legislative victories include passage of legislation appropriating $40 million of permanent funding for the State’s Federally Qualified Health Centers and working with stake holders to study and encourage legislation such as the Family Care Act which expanded coverage of children eligible for health insurance under the State health plan. Barbara has also spent many years working in health care where she concentrated on Maternal and Child health issues. First, as a Public Health Advisor for the Department of Health in New York City where she worked with infants born at-risk for developmental delays. Later, as the Director for the Family Life Institute of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey where she engaged in significant work around reproductive freedom and HIV/AIDS education. Barbara has spent her career in a tireless effort to strengthen the position and preserve the dignity of women and children in our society. She was also instrumental in leading the Women’s Fund of New Jersey’s efforts to initiate a Women’s Policy Institute. Barbara earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Technology from Cornell University, an MPH from Columbia University School of Public Health and a Law Degree from Rutgers-Newark Law School.
